Yesterday Everett Transit held a groundbreaking for the new Swift Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) terminal at Everett Station. A joint venture between Everett Transit and Community Transit, the BRT will provide service along Highway 99 between Everett Station and the Aurora Village Transit Center beginning Nov. 29.

The buses will stop at 12 stations in both directions along the 17-mile corridor. Features of the system include prepayment at each station, three doors on buses to facilitate boarding and transit signal priority to extend green lights. Swift will operate seven days per week, running every 10 minutes on weekdays (from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and every 20 minutes at night and on weekends.

The Swift system will cost an estimated $29.5 million, which is a decrease from the original estimate of $32 million due to the "improved bidding climate," according to a Daily Journal of Commerce report.
