Northwest Hub and its sponsors hope that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and that despite these rough economic times we are all able to focus on the blessings we each have in our lives.  Northwest Hub invites our readers to join us in a 30-year annual tradition of holiday charitable giving, which Pete Buck started in 1979.

In appreciation of our readers, Northwest Hub and its sponsors are making contributions to Seattle Youth Garden Works, a 501(c)(3) organization. From now until December 1st, Northwest Hub will match all of its readers' donations to Seattle Youth Garden Works up to $25.  Donations can be made through the Seattle Youth Garden Works website at www.sygw.org.

More about Seattle Youth Garden Works

The mission of Seattle Youth Garden Works (SYGW) is to empower homeless and underserved youth with a garden-based education and employment.  Founded in 1995, SYGW began as a small volunteer landscaping project to address the needs of homeless youth and has since grown into a successful garden-to-market program that serves nearly 50 youth every year.

At SYGW, youth learn valuable and marketable life skills in a supportive environment.  In addition to learning how to plant, nurture and harvest organic vegetables, herbs, and flowers, the youth learn to write a resume, market their produce, and serve customers at the University District farmers market.  The program also provides youth with opportunities to participate in community service projects, educational field trips, and entrepreneurial training.  These unique opportunities give youth the confidence they need to be engaged members of the community.

SYGW believes that each young adult holds the seeds of their own potential within themselves.  For most, the seeds have not yet had the chance to be nurtured. Working in the garden provides an ideal medium to explore and strengthen a young person's sense of connection with their goals, with the earth, and with their community.  We hope that you join us in our important mission.
