Marcus Rapaport may soon deliver a new source of energy to Cowlitz County residents. Rapaport, who hails from Olympia, has proposed the construction of a power plant that would create hot gas from wood waste, generating electricity and producing ethanol.
The Washington State Department of Commerce has already selected Rapaport for a $1.5 million low-interest loan from federal stimulus funds, and the Cowlitz County Planning Utility District has listed his plan among top biomass projects.
In order to advance the process, Rapaport needs another $6 million to create a small version of the plant to lure further investors.
